The spirit of giving and competition shining

Thespiritofgivinghd

Wright State University Library recently issued the following announcement on March 10.

The Raider Food Pantry at Wright State University is hosting a food drive competition throughout March.

Various departments around campus can compete as a team to win weekly homemade trophies and an overall winner trophy for their collection efforts.

Each week, the collection theme changes so the pantry can focus on items it’s in greatest need of.

“Our mission is to best serve Wright State students,” said Tylar O’Neal-White, counseling and wellness student advocate and case manager.

O’Neal-White said the timing of the drive is perfect. Food items are beginning to run low after receiving a large donation from Wright State Police Department last year.

“The officers definitely helped us over the Fall Semester and through wintertime, but now our supply is dwindling again,” said O’Neal White.

The competition is already in its second week, but it’s not too late if you would like to participate. Students, faculty and staff may partner with a participating office or drop off items in the decorated bins near the Raider Food Pantry at Student Union 055.

Below is the list of items the pantry is collecting in March:

March 1–4: Breakfast foods (cereal, oatmeal, breakfast bars, etc.)

March 7–11: Microwavable/dorm-ready meals (Cup of Noodles, mac and cheese cups)

March 14–18: Pantry essentials (cooking oil, condiments, seasonings, but no cookware)

March 21–25: Pasta and rice (plain pasta, white rice, brown rice, etc.)

March 28–31: Peanut butter, jelly and Nutella
