School Board Elects New President, VP | City of Bellbrook

Thursday night, the Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Local School District Board of Education elected a new president and vice president for 2023, though two board members were unable to make it to the meeting.

With only three members in attendance, Mike Kinsey was nominated president and received a 3-0 vote to become the leader of the board, while Audra Dorn was nominated and received a 3-0 vote to become vice president.

“I’m very excited for the opportunity and humbled that my fellow board members trust me to serve in this capacity,” Kinsey said.

David Carpenter and Kevin Price were unable to attend. It is a policy in the state of Ohio to elect board presidents and vice presidents – even if the district elects to stay with its incumbents – during the first meeting of the year, within the first 15 days of January. The three members in attendance were all that are required to pass any vote by the board at Thursday’s meeting.

The Board also honored the school’s state-level competitors, giving certificates to Sam Vine, Sam Barhorst, Carson Labensky and Eldon Korber for football, CJ Scohy for golf, Mikuya Ford for cross country and Riley Ferrin for soccer.

High school Principal Dave Hann and middle school Assistant Principal Jenna Hill gave presentations to the board regarding courses of study. There was a new class added to the high school for the 2023-24 school year, Career Art Class. In the course, students will study career fields that focus on visual art outside of what is traditionally known as artists – painters, sculptures, etc.

Students will explore visual art-related careers such as cake designer, food truck operator, fashion designer, tattoo artist, comic book artist, graffiti artist, graphic designer, special effects artist, jewelry designer and more.
