Clark State Community College issued the following announcement on March 16.
Clark State College will dedicate a room in the Brinkman Educational Center (BEC) in honor of the late Gene Fischer, Greene County Sheriff.
Sheriff Gene C. Fischer was a lifelong resident of Greene County; he passed away last November.
Fischer was a graduate of Clark State College and served on the Clark State Criminal Justice Advisory Committee.
“Sheriff Gene Fischer was the model for a proud alumnus of Clark State: he demonstrated excellence in his law enforcement career and he made his alma mater, Clark State, better by providing us with useful feedback on how we can improve our program to better serve the region he loved,” said Dr. Jo Alice Blondin, president of Clark State. “He was truly one of a kind, and we are honored to name our classroom after him as a reminder of his legacy of empathy and expertise.”
Sheriff Fischer's long law enforcement career began with the Fairborn Police Department as a volunteer officer. He was hired as an officer in 1983 with the Xenia Police Division. In 2003, he began serving as Greene County Sheriff. He was re-elected five times and served in this capacity until his passing.
“Sheriff Fischer was the epitome of well-respected law enforcement in this region,” said Toni Overholser, director of the Clark State Foundation. “His passing is a loss for our entire community.”
The room dedication in honor of Sheriff Gene Fisher will be held at 4 p.m., Monday, March 28, on the 4th floor of the BEC, 100 South Limestone Street, Springfield. Refreshments will be provided and RSVPs are required by Monday, March 21. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be rescheduled
