Clark State Community College issued the following announcement on January 10.

Clark State College will begin offering courses in the Insurance and Engineering/Industrial Technology programs at the Xenia campus location this semester.

Dr. Adam Parrillo, assistant dean of business and applied technologies at Clark State said the college wanted to offer courses that have shorter-term potential for employment while also being building blocks for associate degrees.

Employment opportunities in the Miami Valley and Ohio in the insurance industry continues to grow. The Property Insurance Claims Certificate provides students with the skills needed for employment in the property-claims industry and preparing them for the (Associate in Claims) AIC 30 and AIC 31 industry exams. The courses are applicable to the Associate of Applied Business degree in Insurance.

“Our partnership with State Auto Insurance for the Guaranteed Hire program makes these classes tangible steppingstones for employment after just two semesters of hard work,” he said. “This is more than the guaranteed hire advertisements as State Auto is following through with those accepted into the program.”

Insurance program courses available at the Xenia location include:

INS 1050 Property and Liability Insurance Principles on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., January 18 through March 12.

INS 1100 Insurance Claims Handling Principles/Practices on Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., January 18 through March 12.

These are the two foundational classes in the Property Insurance Claims Short-Term Technical Certificate and part of the Management - Insurance Option associates degree.  The certificate is part of the State Auto Insurance Guaranteed Hire Program. If accepted in the program and upon completion of the certificate (two semesters), students are hired at an annual salary of $47,000.

Additionally, Parrillo said, manufacturing is experiencing a renaissance in the region with new technologies and Clark State is on the front lines of offering innovative training for the these highly skilled positions.

“With recent multi-million-dollar grants directed towards manufacturing, we have upgraded our labs and curriculum to be on the leading edge, and we can offer students additional academic and wrap-around support as they progress through these programs,” he said. “Moreover, our Engineering Technology and Industrial Technology programs have multiple pathways for specialization in this growth sector.  It starts with the Manufacturing Foundations Certificate.”

Engineering and industrial technology courses available at the Xenia location include:

ENT 1050 Manufacturing Foundations, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., March 21 through May 13.

Parrillo said along with INT 1000 (OSHA 10-Hour General Safety) and EBE 1000 (Employability Skills), students earn the Manufacturing Foundations Certificate which is designed for students who are looking for entry-level skills in areas related to manufacturing.

“The program courses are included in all other Industrial and Engineering certificate and associate degree program,” he said.

The Clark State Xenia is located at 336 South Progress Drive, Xenia, Ohio. Enrollment and registration is now open for spring 2022 academic terms.
